Utilising Social Media for Online Registration

by Beckie Hood on Nov. 15, 2016

If you have tickets for sale for an event, one platform you need to take advantage of is social media marketing. After all,  just think about the sheer number of people you can reach via the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and Pinterest, and you can target your posts to best appeal to the people you’re looking to attract.

There are numerous social media tactics that can be used to drive online event registration, as you will discover below.

With Instagram, it is important to post photographs that are visually appealing and do not take any figuring out. They should be obvious. Also, include the official hashtag for the event in every caption. Hosting a photo competition is a great way to get others to advertise for you. For example ‘Tag three friends to enter’ Make sure you also promote all of your speakers and sponsors and include their account names in your posts.

Snapchat has become an exceptionally popular marketing medium over the past few years. The story feature is a great way to get your followers engaged. Other options include building post event relationships or creating a selfie competition.

The great thing about Facebook is the fact that you can set up a dedicated event page, which will feature all of the details relating to the occasion. Make sure all of the information is up to date, and relevant keywords have been used. Competitions are great on Facebook too, as you can get users to share, comment, and like to enter, which leads to excellent exposure. Also, consider ads to target interested regional attendees.

Pinterest is a unique platform, which offers great success if used effectively. You can create Pinboards that are dedicated to different event aspects, for example, you could include one on guest speakers. Include as many infographics, videos, and photos as possible, and make sure to add keywords to your descriptions to boost visibility.

Last but not least, we have Twitter, which is great for getting the word out regarding the event. You should post on Twitter more often than the other social media websites. Include a trackable shortened URL. During the event, you should retweet active conversations to build up hype.

Hopefully, you now have a better idea regarding how to use social media to boost online event registration. One tried and tested strategy that you can use on all platforms, however, is group bookings. For example, you could offer the lead customer something for free when making a group booking. The ticket buyer would get a unique URL, which they need to share on social media, and when a set number of people purchase tickets using that URL, he or she could get a free ticket, for instance. This is a great way to get others to promote for you and it can be used on any one of the social media platforms, ensuring you spread your reach as wide as possible.
